by Alice on August 03, 2020

Out of all the multitude of hair extensions types, tape ins have always been the best semi permanent hair extensions to help boost the length and volume of your hair without having to go through the application and removal process on a daily basis.

What are tape in extensions?

Tape in hair extensions are the perfect method of hiding hair loss issues or bad haircuts in a safe and cheap way. They come in thin pre-taped wefts only 1.5 inches wide that you attach to your natural hair strands by ‘sandwiching’ them together. How to put in tape in extensions? Take a thin strand of your own hair and place it between two tape-in wefts, creating bonds, as close to your scalp as possible. These bonds will lay flat on your head, making them virtually undetectable and very lightweight. The glue used on tape in hair is medicinal, which ensures that it is in no way harmful to you or your hair.

How to choose the best tape in hair extensions

1. Choose human hair tape ins

Human hair extensions are always the best option when choosing your tape in extensions. We only sell 100% Remy human tape in hair extensions, which is the finest quality of human hair available. Remy hair is collected in a way that ensures that the cuticles remain intact and facing the natural growing direction, which keeps them from tangling and maintains their natural look.

Another advantage of remy tape in hair extensions is that you will be able to color, curl, straighten and style them just like your would your own hair. Synthetic hair on the other hand cannot be colored and will melt when exposed to heat. Most synthetic hair comes with preset styles that cannot be altered so you will not be able to style them in any other way.

As adhesive hair extensions can be used multiple times, you need to invest in good quality real hair that will keep its shape and silkiness for a longer period of time. This way you can get the best value for your buck.

2. Choose a fair price for your tape ins

Good quality hair comes with a certain price, but don’t get fooled by overpriced tape in extensions.  After a certain price point, the cost reflects the celebrity collaborations and brand marketing and not the actual value of the tape-ins. Seamless tape in hair extensions usually come in packs of 50-70 grams and a fair price for these sets is set around $55. Remember that if you do not apply your invisible tape extensions yourself, you will have to pay extra fees for having them fitted at the salon, which might set you back about $100 per session.

3. Choose the correct color for the tape-ins

In order to get the best results, color blending is key. Make sure to choose the correct shade for your tape-ins in order to match them to your natural hair, and get a natural look once you have them applied. Remember that human remy hair can always be dyed, so don't shy away from coloring your tape-ins if they are not a perfect match to your own hair!

If you want to experiment with highlights/lowlights or even ombre, try getting a few packs in a lighter or darker shade that is complementary to your own hair and you'll be able to create more depth and volume without using any bleach!

4. Choose tape ins with quality adhesive

Always look for tape-ins with good quality medicinal glue that ensures that no harm will be done to your scalp or hair. Remember that real human hair tape in extensions remain in your hair for 4-8 weeks, so you need to invest in tapes that come with the best adhesive, to make sure that none of the wefts come undone, considering that you will be washing them on a normal basis and you'll be using styling products.

How to care for tape in extensions?

Tape in extensions are easy to care for after having them put in, as they will act just like your normal hair. Make sure to always wash your hair with sulfate-free products that will not affect the adhesive. Do not use oily hair products close to the glue, as these may cause slippage (you can use any type of oil to remove the adhesive when you want to remove your tapes). Never pull on your hair when you have the tapes in, as they might break or cause damage! Be careful when using hot styling tools to avoid the adhesive part of the tapes, so that it doesn't melt.

MARY – Our tape-ins are grouped by weight, so shorter lengths like the 14, 16 and 20 inches come in packs of 50 grams and longer lengths like the 24 and 28 inches come in packs of 70 grams. We normally suggest our customers to go for 2 or 3 sets in order for the tape-ins to cover their entire heads, but the amount you need depends on how thick your natural hair is and how much volume you’re after.
